About the Event
Join legacy holders and international HEN trainers Bob Milone and Donna Martin in this exploration of the interface of Hakomi and Porges’ Polyvagal theory. We’ll offer some brief explanations of Polyvagal theory as it relates to Hakomi and spend time in some relevant experiential practices for understanding how this theory can be applied in a Hakomi way, for your own personal healing or in your professional practice.
The Polyvagal Theory was developed by Stephen Porges and applied practically by Deb Dana (Befriending Your Nervous System, and the Polyvagal Theory in Therapy). This theory about our nervous system gives us a new understanding of how much we are on automatic, constantly scanning our environment for cues of safety or possible threat, and shifting our embodied state accordingly. The state of our nervous system unconsciously affects and determines how we feel, how we think, how we perceive, how we react, and how we relate to others and to life. This is so relevant to the point of Hakomi - helping someone understand how they are organized in ways that are mostly unconscious, and how to find new possibilities of how to relate to life experiences.
The Polyvagal theory offers a clear understanding of and validation for our Hakomi approach to psychotherapy. It confirms the importance of cultivating higher levels of self-awareness, pointing to accessible ways of having more choice about our embodied reactions to life.
This event will be held on June 4th 2023, 10:00AM to 12:00PM PDT.
